Labor’s regulation obsession exposed

Australia’s economy is buckling under the deadweight of Labor’s red tape. 

The Albanese Labor Government enacted 5,000 new regulations in just three years according to the Parliamentary Library. 

The 5,034 new regulations are an ugly catalogue of anti business garbage. 

Labor is right to say productivity is a national priority — on that, we agree. But productivity is flagging under the pressure of Labor’s deadweight red tape. 

The Treasurer seems totally confused - is he for his own red tape or against it? 

We need clear thinking from the government. This could be a rare opportunity to streamline regulation and set Australia up for the next decade. We will be constructive but Labor must reflect on their own record. 

Today in Australia, Labor’s red tape is shrinking the economy, and destroying private investment. Capital expenditure is down and government spending is up. 

Productivity reform means doing the hard things — not just hosting roundtables or commissioning reports. 

Cutting red tape would incentivise and reward hard work and investment. That’s what Australia needs. The Coalition is offering serious scrutiny and serious ideas.

If Labor wants to work constructively, the Coalition is here. But if Labor keeps confusing activity with progress, Australians will pay the price.
