The Labor Government has now proposed a regulation to materially expand the Home Guarantee Scheme with zero parliamentary oversight.

This is a disgraceful abuse and misuse of delegated power by the least transparent government in decades.

Effectively, Labor is now committing taxpayer funds without any Parliamentary approval or review.

The original idea of the Home Guarantee Scheme was to be a targeted program helping low income Australians with no or low deposits.

Labor has turned it into an uncapped and non-means-tested scheme that will allow the children of billionaires to buy their first home.

The Commonwealth is now exposed to a tremendous contingent liability in the event of mortgage foreclosures.

Regrettably, this regulation is not disallowable, so the Parliament and its proper processes of scrutiny and supervision have been completely bypassed by a government whose policies have seen housing construction crash, property prices rise, and housing red tape balloon out of control.

Australians will face higher taxes for Labor’s largesse.
