I note the Liberal Party’s position to oppose the Constitutional Amendment on the Indigenous Voice. This position is not binding for all Members and Senators in the Liberal Party.

I maintain an open mind on the Voice as a long term supporter of the concept.

The Select Inquiry into the Constitution Alteration Bill remains an important process to which I hope we are all committed.

Through our Inquiry, we should seek the best Constitutional Amendment to empower communities which is also safe for our institutional framework. The process to date has been poor, but that is not a good enough reason to oppose the referendum in my opinion.

The Liberal Party is now offering support for a national voice, local and regional voices and some form of Constitutional recognition. I will also give consideration to the effectiveness of this package in coming months. ‍
