A message from Anthony Roberts and Andrew Bragg
Dear all We write to you ahead of the Annual General Meeting on 6 August. We urge you to vote for the Sydney Motion and its proposals to guarantee plebiscite preselections in New South Wales. The Sydney Motion ensures the members can have their say on our candidates. It promotes transparency over preselections and the State Executive’s actions to achieve selection meetings through a mandatory schedule of preselections within 12 months of an election. It also ensures the Division can get on with running preselections without interference. This means the members can have their say. We urge you to vote for these changes. If we want to be a grassroots movement again, we must trust our own members to have their say. By locking in the Sydney Motion, we deliver the Warringah Motion for all time and we will be a bigger, better party as a result.
Why would anyone join a party that denied its members basic rights? You wouldn’t.
We would also like to commend the efforts of the Artarmon Branch and the Mittagong Branch for proposing very similar reforms that enhance member's democratic rights and improve our Party's processes.
As all three sets of democratic reforms are complementary, the Constitutional Standing Committee has consolidated the numerous motions into a single package that will be proposed and debated at the AGM.
See you at the AGM. Regards,
