The third annual Shepherd Oration will take place on Thursday, 4 November 2021, with special guest orator Ms Josephine Sukkar AM, Principal, Buildcorp.
The Shepherd Oration, named after Mr Tony Shepherd AO, was established in 2019 by NSW Senator Andrew Bragg to provide a forum for business to engage in an open and active dialogue on policy formulation in Australia.
“I am thrilled to have Josephine this year. I expect she will encourage other leaders to follow her model of substantive civic engagement in Australia which has enriched us all,” Senator Bragg said.
“As well as being highly regarded in the construction industry, Josephine also plays an influential part in shaping the future of Australian sport in her roles as President of Australian Women’s Rugby and Chair of the Australian Sports Commission.”
Tony Shepherd AO agrees Josephine encompasses the qualities the Shepherd Oration stands for.
“We are delighted to have Josephine deliver the 2021 Shepherd Oration.
“Of course, business is the life blood of the economy and fundamental to the wellbeing of our citizens, and I am proud to say that Josephine Sukkar is a good friend and a person whom I deeply admire.”
Ms Sukkar’s speech will focus on the themes of leadership, courage and accountability.
“I am delighted to have been invited to deliver the 2021 Shepherd Oration. As the nation begins to reimagine itself post-COVID, we must focus on those positive acts of leadership and courage; on those businesses and individuals who stood up and were accountable and made the difficult decisions in frightening times. Often at great personal and physical cost.”
NAB Chair Mr Philip Chronican has once again generously offered to host the Shepherd Oration.
